Lead

Lead Inspections

HMS, Inc.'s state certified inspectors can perform inspections to identify lead, primarily in paint, in order to meet a variety of needs. Reasons to inspect might include Cal/OSHA compliance with CCR Title 8 Section 1532.1 to protect workers from lead exposure during paint, renovation or demolition, or identification of damaged or lead-painted surfaces to meet federal funding requirements.

Lead Project Design

When a lead-containing surface must be disturbed, HMS, Inc. can develop a project design to ensure a contractor will perform the work to a specific standard, using appropriate precautions and work practices to prevent exposure to themselves or others in the area, or even to avoid contamination of the environment.

Lead Project Management

Project management is performed by state-certified technicians who will help ensure that contractors perform work in a safe and appropriate manner. Monitors perform air sampling, ensure contractor compliance with specifications and regulations, review contractor documentation for proper licenses, insurance, and training, and perform a final visual inspection after completion of remediation to assure that all materials were removed or stabilized as specified and that final cleanup adequately prepares the area for other trades or building occupants.

Lead Clearance

The approach to clearance on a lead job depends on whether the work was performed to abate a lead hazard or to comply with OSHA requirements.  HMS, Inc. will determine the intent of the lead work, and clearance by visual inspection or by dust wipe and soil sampling will be performed after completion of work by the contractor.

Lead Risk Assessment

Many public agencies are required to have lead risk assessments completed in single family homes for a variety of reasons, most often related to federal funding for low-interest loans and grants. HMS, Inc.'s certified inspectors/assessors are experienced in assessing paint condition and interviewing building occupants about use of the spaces.
