Remediation of hazardous materials is not construction work-- it is HAZMAT work.

As a division of Forensic Analytical Consulting Services, Inc., HMS Training is committed to its employees, strong client relationships, industry-leading knowledge and providing clients the best training available.

How it Started

While working for Cal/OSHA’s Consultation branch in the early 1980’s, Jim Sharp saw the need to help school districts and other building owners with the asbestos-containing materials existing in their buildings. Jim founded HMS, Inc. in 1984 as an asbestos contractor and removal company. For two years, HMS, Inc.conducted asbestos removal. In 1987, when the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) was issued – splitting the asbestos industry into consultants and contractors – HMS, Inc. chose to pursue asbestos consulting only. School districts comprised 75 to 80 percent of HMS, Inc.’s clientele from 1986 through the mid-1990’s. Since then, HMS, Inc. has expanded its clientele to include hospitals, municipal utility districts, universities, refineries, shopping malls, theaters, federal government facilities, large and small private building owners, construction management firms, general contractors, and architects. Over the years, HMS, Inc. has added expertise in lead, mold, PCBs, and various other hazardous materials to its consulting services.

In 2001, HMS, Inc., became an accredited and certified training provider. Currently, HMS Training is accredited by Cal/OSHA, the California Department of Public Health, and the Federal EPA to provide courses for professional asbestos and lead certifications. In an effort to better serve HMS clientele, HMS joined forces with Forensic Analytical Consulting Services, Inc., in 2018. The merging of these companies allows HMS to continue offering the best hazardous materials training available while increasing its industrial hygiene service capabilities & expanding its service-area footprint.
